2. SPECIFIC PRESS LAWS

There is no specific press law. However, laws which affect the media in Jamaica include Advertisement Regulation Act, Copyright Act, Defamation Act, Fair Competition Act, Libel and Slander Act, Obscene Publication (suppression of) Act, Radio and Telegraph Control Act, Broadcasting & Radio Re-Diffusion Act, Emergency Powers Act, Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation Act and Treason Felony Act.

Additionally, there are judge-made decisions particularly in the areas of defamation which form the basis for interpretation of the statutes. All statutes are made by the National Parliament consisting of an elected Cabinet and a nominated Senate.
