9. OTHER RESTRICTIONS ON THE CONTENT
OF INFORMATION
The Childhood Code of 1997 under Article 67 prohibits the use
of male and female children and adolescents through any news medium
to incite to the use of drugs, tobacco, child prostitution and pornography,
alcohol or that exalt vice or disrespect their dignity.
Also prohibited is the dissemination by any medium of the names,
photographs or identifying features of girls, boys and adolescents
that have been actively or passively involved in unlawful activity
(Article 71).
Article 106 establishes the right of adolescents to have their
private and family life be respected and it is prohibited to publish
or broadcast any detail of an investigation or proceedings that
directly or indirectly might identify them. Violation of this provision
is punishable under administrative, civil or criminal law.
The Electoral Law of 1996 requires that 72 hours before election
day all electoral campaigning shall cease and the news media shall
be under the orders of the Supreme Electoral Council in disseminating
information about the procedures for exercising the right to vote
(Article 101).
