16. COPYRIGHT IN NEWSPAPERS

The Constitution stipulates in Article 33: ?Intellectual work, the right of the author, inventor or artist shall be recognized and protected under the law.?

Copyright is regulated by Law 9,739 of December 17, 1937.

Its Article 45 expressly states that the reproduction of news, reports, or printed or tape-recorded news items of general interest is not unlawful so long as they are kept unchanged and their origin is acknowledged. In the same article it says that the publication, radio broadcast or dissemination in print of works, fragments of poetry and single articles is not unlawful, so long as the name of the author is mentioned.
