18. REGULATION OF FOREIGN OWNERSHIP OF PUBLICATIONS

There is no legislation prohibiting or restricting foreign companies or individuals.

The only prohibition for foreigners without legal residence in the country is for them to be a responsible editor or manager (Article 6 of Press Law, Law 16,099).

But they do have to comply with provisions regulating commercial enterprises (Law 16,060 of September 4, 1989).

This latter law?s Section XVI regulates foreign-based corporations and Article 192 (Applicable Rules) stipulates: ?Companies incorporated abroad shall be governed, in regards to their existence, legal competency, operation and dissolution by the law of the place of their incorporation, except when they go against international public order of the Republic?.?
