PROFESSIONAL SECRECY OR PROTECTION OF SOURCES
The
protection of a journalist?s sources is a matter of common law.
The general rule is that courts will be unwilling to offer a journalist
complete protection against such disclosure if it is considered
relevant and necessary to the proper adjudication of the matter.
Therefore, while many journalists may resist revealing sources during
the course of litigation, once the case reaches the trial stage,
the judge may hold him or her in contempt of court if he does not
answer the question.
