18. REGULATION OF FOREIGN OWNERSHIP OF PUBLICATIONS

There is no provision to the effect of prohibiting foreign capital in written press under the Foreign Investment Review Act. All that it states is that foreign investors must be approved by the Ministry of Industry since a newspaper is a business activity that relates to Canada?s cultural heritage and national identity.

The Broadcasting Act states that the Canadian broadcasting system shall be effectively owned and controlled by Canadians.
