12. PROFESSIONAL SECRECY OR PROTECTION OF SOURCES

The penal code says that doctors, surgeons, health officials, pharmacists, midwives and others who, because of their profession or occupation, are entrusted with the secrets of others, will be punished with correctional prison terms of one to six months, plus a fine of 10 to 100 pesos, should they reveal those secrets, except when compelled to do so by the law (Art. 377). It is understand that the professional secrets of journalists are protected by this penal principle.
