WHEREAS
our Host Committee, chaired by Gonzalo Marroquín of Prensa Libre in Guatemala; Rodolfo Mobil of Nuestro Diario in Guatemala; José Rubén Zamora of elPeriódico in Guatemala; Guillermo Fernández of Siglo XXI in Guatemala; and José Carlos Marroquín of La Hora in Guatemala, provided a hospitable and friendly environment conducive to professional and social activities

WHEREAS
the General Assembly received the generous support of the following organizations, which sponsored hospitality events, offered services and provided useful and informative material:

WHEREAS
the presidents of Guatemala and El Salvador, Oscar Berger Perdomo and Elías Antonio Saca, respectively, and Nobel Prize winner Oscar Arias, accepted the invitation of the Association to address the members and their guests

WHEREAS
a number of prominent people gave important seminars, such as Dipak Jain (“Understanding Brand: A Marketing Mindset”); Mike Smith, Rafael Carles and Ricardo Roa (“New Product Success Stories”); Mary Fran Gleason and Melissa Lou (“New Uses for the Internet”); Tom Fiedler and Luis Enrique Solórzano (“How to Build a New Culture in the Newspaper”), all seminars coordinated by Mike Smith of the Media Management Center of Northwestern University

WHEREAS
several individuals of note offered special presentations, such as John Lavine (“Results of the New Readership Study: Which Experiences Motivate and Inhibit Young Readers”), introduced by Alejandro Aguirre; Ruth Shady Solís and Matilde Ivic de Monterroso (“Cultural Heritage of the Maya and Inca”), moderated by Victoria Cox

WHEREAS
a number of important figures participated on interesting panels, such as such as
Mario Pasco Cosmópolis, John Dinges and Alex Grijelmo (“Lines of Self-Control in News”), moderated by Alejo Miró Quesada; Milton Coleman, Javier Urrutia and Claudio Grossman (“Censorship and Hidden Cameras”), moderated by Danilo Arbilla; Sergio Morales, Eduardo Ulibarri and June Erlick (“Press Freedom and Human Rights”), moderated by Gonzalo Marroquín

WHEREAS
the IAPA staff has done excellent work, enabling the activities of this Assembly to advance in an efficient manner
