IMPUNITY ARGENTINA
WHEREAS
even though the Argentine government has compensated Alicia María Isabel
Prestigiacomo, aka Marisa Presti, the widow of journalist Rodolfo Jorge Fernández
Pondal, for his physical disappearance on August 5, 1977 in the city of Buenos
Aires
WHEREAS
twenty-seven years after this incident, which has been registered through the
so-called National Reorganization Process, all evidence suggests that the disappearance
of Fernández Pondal, the assistant editor of the Buenos Aires newsweekly
Ultima Clave, was due to his work as a journalist
WHEREAS
Article 4 of the Declaration of Chapultepec states that “freedom of expression
and of the press are severely limited by murder, terrorism, kidnapping, pressure,
intimidation, the unjust imprisonment of journalists, the destruction of facilities,
violence of any kind and impunity for perpetrators”
THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE SIP RESOLVES
to urge the government of the Argentine Republic and the Inter-American Commission
on Human Rights (IACHR), to investigate the complaints filed by the victim’s
family, in order for a timely and complete account of what happened to Fernández
Pondal to be provided.
