Condena la SIP asesinato y agresiones contra periodistas dominicanos
Miami (15 de septiembre del 2004).- La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) condenó ayer el asesinato del periodista dominicano Juan Andújar y reclamó a las autoridades que actúen con la mayor celeridad para apresar a los responsables de la muerte y someterlos a la justicia para que enfrenten las sanciones que establece la ley.
El presidente de la Comisión de Libertad de Prensa e Información de la SIP, Rafael Molina Morillo, de El Nacional, manifestó que el asesinato de Andújar en Azua, en la región sur del país, y las heridas de bala al periodista Luis Sención constituyen, además de un crimen, un atentado a la libertad de prensa que no debe admitirse ni quedar sin sanción.
Andújar murió como consecuencia de un disparo en la cabeza que le hizo Blas Pujols, miembro de una supuesta banda de delincuentes, al salir de la radioemisora Radio Azua en la mañana del martes pasado, después que otros cuatro miembros de la banda habían muerto en la madrugada en un intercambio de disparos con la Policía.
El crimen contra Andújar y las heridas a Sención, se produjeron después que ambos recibieron una llamada de amenaza mientras realizaban un programa de noticias y comentarios a través de radio Azua.
Otros periodistas de esa ciudad que también han recibido amenazas por sus posiciones contra la delincuencia, entre ellos el corresponsal de El Nacional, Juan Sánchez, así como Domingo Corcino, Héctor J. Caamaño, Narciso Maríñez, Chistian Daniel Ramírez y Rafael Vargas, debieron buscar protección en el comando de la policia regional para asegurar su integridad física.
La muerte de Andújar, corresponsal del Listín Diario, ha conmocionado a la República Dominicana y en particular a Azua. Se trataba de un periodista con más de 20 años de ejercicio que se había destacado por su compromiso con las organizaciones populares y la defensa del medio ambiente en la región sur del país. Sención es periodista de Radio Enriquillo.
Molina Morillo, de la SIP, expresó su preocupación por el incremento de la delincuencia organizada en el país y el efecto que crímenes como el de Andújar podría tener sobre el ejercicio de la libertad de prensa en el país si no se aplican las más severas sanciones contra los responsables, en un plazo breve.
Por su parte, Víctor Tejada de El Caribe y vicepresidente por República Dominicana para la Comisión de Libertad de Prensa e Información, manifestó sus condolencias a los familiares de la víctima y a sus colegas.
IAPA condemns murder and attacks against journalists in Dominican Republic
Miami (September 15, 2004).- The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today condemned the murder of journalist Juan Andújar from the Dominican Republic and demanded that authorities act promptly to arrest those responsible for the murder and bring them to justice to face the consequences established by law.
The chairman of the IAPAs Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information, Rafael Molina Morillo, from El Nacional newspaper, stated that Andújars murder in Azua, in the southern part of the country, and the injuries from gun shots against journalist Luis Sención are more than just a crime, but also an attack against freedom of the press that should not be permitted nor remain unpunished.
Andújar died from being shot in the head by Blas Pujols, a member of an alleged gang while leaving Azua radio station last Tuesday morning, after four other members of the gang had died that morning in an exchange of gunfire with the police.
Andújars murder and Sencións attack happened after both had received threats while they hosted a news and commentary program at Azua radio.
Other journalists from that city that have also received threats for their comments on the eradication of crime, including the correspondent from El Nacional newspaper, Juan Sánchez, as well as Domingo Corcino, Héctor J. Caamaño, Narciso Maríñez, Chistian Daniel Ramírez, and Rafael Vargas, should seek protection at the local police station to protect their own safety.
The murder of Andújar, correspondent from Listín Diario, has shaken the Dominican Republic and Azua, in particular. He was a journalist with more than 20 years of experience known for his commitment to community organizations and defending the environment in the southern part of his country. Sención was a reporter for Enriquillo Radio.
Molina Morillo, from IAPA, expressed his concern over the increase in organized crime in the country and the affect murders, like that of Andújar, can have on freedom of the press in the country if the most harsh punishments are not imposed on those responsible within a reasonable amount of time.
Meanwhile, Víctor Tejada from El Caribe and regional vice chairman for the Dominican Republic of the Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information, expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims and his colleagues.
