Combate radial conjunto contra la impunidad inician la SIP y la AIR
Miami (7 febrero del 2006).- La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) y la Asociación Internacional de Radiodifusión (AIR) anunciaron hoy el lanzamiento conjunto de una campaña radial continental denominada Terminemos con la impunidad de crímenes contra periodistas.
La iniciativa considera la transmisión radial de un sinnúmero de breves spots donde se denuncia un crimen contra un periodista aún impune. En los últimos 18 años han sido asesinados 290 periodistas en el hemisferio. A través del llamado que difundirán las estaciones radiales se invita al público a ingresar a la página www.impunidad.com a fin de firmar una carta a las autoridades del respectivo país, solicitándoles su intervención para que no se detenga la investigación judicial y sean castigados los autores materiales e intelectuales de los crímenes.
A través de la participación de miles de ciudadanos, la SIP y la AIR pretenden exigir a la autoridad la pronta adopción de medidas correctivas eficaces que impidan la impunidad.
Los primeros spots que las radioemisoras difundirán se refieren a los casos de los periodistas asesinados: Jaime Garzón, Nelson Carvajal (Colombia); Ronaldo Santana de Araujo, José Carlos Mesquita, Reinaldo Coutinho da Silva (Brasil); y Héctor Félix Miranda, (México). Para esta primera etapa de la campaña radial, los spots son solamente para radios en español.
La SIP desarrolla esta campaña interactiva en forma mensual desde marzo de 2003 a través de 320 periódicos del continente, como parte de una estrategia destinada a contribuir a la causa de la prensa libre. Cuenta para ello con el apoyo económico de la Fundación John S. y James L Knight.
IAPA, IAB announce joint radio campaign against impunity
MIAMI, Florida (February 7, 2006)The International Press Association (IAPA) and International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) today announced the launch of a joint radio campaign titled Lets Put and End to the Impunity Surrounding Crimes Against Journalists.
The initiative consists of spots, to be broadcast by radio stations throughout the Western Hemisphere, drawing attention to the fact that the murders of many journalists continue to go unpunished. In the past 18 years, a total of 290 news men and women have been murdered in the Americas. In the spots, listeners are invited to go to the IAPAs Web site www.impunidad.com and sign a letter to the authorities in the respective countries asking them to act to force official investigations into the murders to bring those behind them and those that carried them out to justice.
With the participation of thousands of people the objective of the IAPA and IAB is to demand that the authorities take effective corrective action to put an end to impunity once and for all.
The first spots to be broadcast by the radio stations are those concerning the cases of the murder of journalists Jaime Garzón and Nelson Carvajal (Colombia); Ronaldo Santa de Araujo, José Carlos Mesquita and Reinaldo Coutinho da Silva (Brazil); and Héctor Félix Miranda (Mexico). In this first phase of the campaign the spots will be aired only on Spanish-language radio.
The IAPA has been conducting this interactive campaign on a monthly basis since March 2003 in 320 newspapers throughout the Americas as part of strategy aimed at contributing to the cause of a free press. In this, it has received the financial support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
