Miami (February
17) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) will be moving
to its new headquarters in Miami this week thanks to the generous
support of $1.8 million and a low-rate loan from the Robert R. McCormick
Tribune Foundation. After nearly 25 years in its current location,
the IAPA officers believe that it is necessary to move to a new
building with more office space that will meet the demands of the
organizations mission.
The IAPAs new
headquarters will be located in the Brickell area of downtown Miami.
The building will be named after Jules Dubois - Latin American correspondent
for the Chicago Tribune during the middle part of the century and
early member of the IAPA. He was Chairman of the Committee on Freedom
of the Press and Information for 15 years (1950-1965). The building
will not only include offices, but also a Boardroom where officers
will conduct their meetings, a library which will contain a wide
variety of reference materials on press freedom, and an auditorium
where the IAPA will conduct frequent seminars, workshops and conferences
in an effort to strengthen the organizations presence in the fight
for freedom of the press in the Americas.
The new IAPA address is: Inter American Press Association, 1801
S.W. 3rd Avenue, Miami, Florida 33129. The organizations telephone,
fax and e-mail will currently remain the same. In order to accomplish
this move, the IAPA will be partially closing its offices from Wednesday
through Friday.
An official
inauguration of the IAPAs Jules Debois Building will take place
later this year.
