Twenty five editors and reporters from the business and finance sections of mayor newspapers in eight Latin American countries will attend the event. The bank will be represented by a group of economists, researchers and top administrators headed by David de Ferranti, vice president for the region.
The seminar has been jointly organized by the Press Institute of the Inter American Press Association, based in Miami, and the World Bank.
Among topics to be discussed are "Poverty, Violence, Peace and the News Media," "Governance and Poverty: How Corruption Generates Poverty," and "How Poverty and Corruption Influences Freedom of the Press."
Several speakers will address specific relevant topics. Among them are Luis Moreno Ocampo, president of Transparency International (Latin América); Daniel Santoro, prize-winning investigative reporter from Argentina, and Danilo Arbilla, president of the IAPAs newly- created Peace Committee.
The participating journalists will come from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
