IAPA elects new slate of officers for 2002-2003

MIAMI, Florida (November 7, 2002) —The new president of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), Andres Garcia, today announced the new officers of the hemisphere free-press organization who will work with him during his term of office ending in October 2003.

Garcia, Associate Publisher of Novedades de Quintana Roo, S. A. de C. V., Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, was elected president during the IAPA’s 58th General Assembly held recently in Lima, Peru. He succeeds Robert J. Cox, assistant editor The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina.

Garcia will be joined in his term of office by 1st Vice President Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing Company, Chicago, Illinois and by the 2nd. Vice President Alejo Miro Quesada Cisneros, El Comercio, Lima, Peru. Treasurer is Earl Maucker, The Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Secretary, Robert J. Caldwell, The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego, California; and Executive Director, Julio E. Muñoz.

The Honorary Chairman of the Executive Committee is Robert U. Brown, Editor & Publisher, Nueva York; President, Diana Daniels, The Washington Post Company, Washington, D.C., and Vice President Robert J. Cox, assistant editor The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina.
