La SIP convoca a Foro sobre Libertad de Prensa en Venezuela
Miami (15 de noviembre del 2004) - La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP), preocupada por la volátil situación en Venezuela, realizará la primera semana de diciembre en ese país un foro tendiente a analizar los aspectos más sobresalientes en materia legal y judicial que siguen amenazando la libertad de prensa.
El "Foro de Emergencia en Venezuela, que se efectuará el 6 de diciembre en el Hotel JW Marriott, es parte del proyecto de Chapultepec de la SIP, destinado a promover y defender la libertad de prensa en las Américas.
La actividad será dirigida por el presidente de la SIP, Alejandro Miró Quesada, director de El Comercio, Lima, Perú, e intervendrán expertos en asuntos legales como el abogado venezolano Asdrúbal Aguiar quien analizará aspectos sobre proyectos de ley que afectan el desarrollo de los medios de comunicación.
Este foro en forma especial destacará la objeción de la organización hemisférica a la Ley sobre la Responsabilidad Social en Radio y Televisión, conocida como Ley de Contenidos, que representa una gran amenaza contra la prensa y medios de comunicación en Venezuela porque contiene elementos nefastos que implican una censura total al permitir que el Estado se autoproclame dueño de la información que los medios pueden emitir.
IAPA organizes Forum on Freedom of the Press in Venezuela
Miami (November 15, 2004) The Inter American Press Association (IAPA), concerned about the volatile situation in Venezuela, will organize a forum during the first week of December to analyze the most important aspects of the law that continue to threaten freedom of the press.
The "Emergency Forum in Venezuela, will take place on December 6 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Caracas as part of the IAPAs Chapultepec Project aimed at promoting and defending freedom of the press in the Americas.
The forum will be led by IAPA President, Alejandro Miró Quesada Cisneros, publisher of El Comercio, Lima, Peru, and will include presentations by legal experts, such as Venezuelan attorney Asdrúbal Aguiar who will examine aspects of pending legislation that affect the media.
This form will place special emphasis on the Law on Social Responsibility in Radio and Television, known as the Law on Content, which represents a serious threat to press freedom since it contains harmful elements that involve total censorship by allowing the State to claim itself as the owner of information that the media can disseminate.
