SIP anuncia nuevo premio para publicaciones en Internet y nuevos auspiciantes para Premios 2006
Miami (8 de octubre, 2005)- La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) anunció una nueva categoría de sus Premios a la Excelencia Periodística: Premio SIP de Cobertura Noticiosa en Internet. The Wall Street Journal y wsj.com patrocinarán el nuevo premio.
"The Wall Street Journal y wsj.com están complacidos de patrocinar este nuevo premio que reconoce la importancia y el papel creciente que el periodismo electrónico desempeña en nuestras vidas", sostuvo William E. Casey Jr., presidente de la Comisión de Premios y vicepresidente de las Ediciones Especiales de Dow Jones & Co., Nueva York. Wsj.com es el sitio de noticias pagado más grande de Internet.
La Comisión de Premios de la SIP también informó que The Washington Post es un nuevo co-auspiciante del Premio de Fotografía para periódicos. The Washington Post y washingtonpost.com se complacen en patrocinar el Premio de Fotografía que otorga un reconocimiento a las imágenes de las noticias frecuentemente tan o más poderosas que la palabra escrita al captar la tristeza, el dolor, la esperanza, la alegría de la condición humana, afirmó primera vicepresidenta de la SIP, Diana M. Daniels, además vicepresidenta, presidenta Jurídica y secretaria de The Washington Post Company. Co-auspicia también el Premio SIP de Fotografía, el diario ABC Color de Asunción, Paraguay.
La SIP organiza anualmente el concurso que reúne los mejores trabajos periodísticos de Latinoamérica, el Caribe y América del Norte, ofreciendo premios en dinero y la distinción de un diploma o certificado. Los ganadores son seleccionados por un grupo internacional de editores y directores de medios que integran la Comisión de Premios de la SIP. Los trabajos que concursan se presentan en los tres idiomas principales del hemisferio: español, inglés y portugués.
Los ganadores reciben los premios durante un acto en el marco de la Asamblea General que se lleva a cabo anualmente en el mes de octubre.
Este año, los ganadores serán premiados en la ceremonia que se realizará del 7 al11 de octubre en Indianápolis, Estados Unidos, durante la 61 Asamblea General de la SIP.

IAPA Announces New Award for Online Publications and New Sponsors for 2006 Awards
Miami (October 8) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announced a new category for its Awards for Excellence in Journalism: Best Online News Coverage. The Wall Street Journal and wsj.com will sponsor the new award.
"The Wall Street Journal and wsj.com are delighted to sponsor this new IAPA award, which recognizes the growing role and importance that online journalism plays in all our lives," said William E. Casey Jr., Chairman of the Awards Committee and Vice President of Special Editions of Dow Jones & Co., New York. Wsj.com is the largest paid news site on the worldwide web.
The IAPA Awards Committee also reported that The Washington Post has become co-sponsor of the newspaper Photography Award. The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com are pleased to co-sponsor the Newspaper Photography Award, which gives recognition to news images often as powerful as the written word or more so in capturing the sorrow, the pain, the hope, the joy of the human condition, said Diana M. Daniels, First Vice President of the IAPA and Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of The Washington Post Company. The other co-sponsor of the newspaper Photography Award is the daily ABC Color of Asuncion, Paraguay.
The IAPA annually organizes the contest that compiles the best works in journalism of Latin America, the Caribbean and North America for prizes in cash and the distinction of a diploma or a certificate. The winners are selected by a group of international editors and publishers that comprise the IAPA Awards Committee. The entries are presented in Spanish, Portuguese or English, the three primary languages of the hemisphere.
The winners receive the awards during a luncheon at the IAPA General Assembly every October.
This year, winners will be awarded at the luncheon ceremony to take place in Indianapolis, United States, during the IAPA 61st General Assembly from October 7th through the 11th.
