Miami (June 6, 2003) – The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) is sending
an international delegation to the General Assembly of the Organization of American
States (OAS) taking place in Santiago, Chile, on June 8-10, to discuss with participants
in the meeting on issues relating to freedom of the press in the Americas.
The IAPA delegation will be led by Jorge Fascetto, Diario Popular, Buenos Aires,
Argentina, and comprised of Luis F. Etchevehere, El Diario, Paraná, Argentina;
Bartolomé Mitre, La Nación, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Julio
E. Muñoz, IAPA Executive Director, as well as other Chilean members.
The objective of the IAPA mission to Chile is to hold meetings with members
of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and foreign ministers of the
OAS member states in order to discuss violations to press freedom in several
countries in the region.
The results of the mission will be made during a press conference on Monday,
June 9, at 1:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago.
