IAPA elects new directors

MIAMI, Florida (October 23, 2003) — The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today announced its members of the Board of Directors for the period 2003-2006.

One-third of the full 60-member Board is elected each year to serve for the following three years. On winding up its 59th annual General Assembly in Chicago, Illinois, October 10-14 the IAPA announced the names of the new directors (listed as follows), together with those elected to fill existing vacancies on the Board.

Under the IAPA bylaws, the Board of Directors assumes office immediately and holds a regular meeting during the annual General Assembly. The Board has the power to make rules and regulations for conducting the business and affairs of the Association.

The IAPA is a not-for-profit organization among whose objectives are the defense of freedom of expression and of the press in the Americas. It has more than 1, 300 members representing newspapers and magazines throughout the Western Hemisphere.
